The BUDS (Bacolod Union of Diocesan Seminarians) has its remote origin to the diocesan groupings that can be found in the different formation houses in Manila and Iloilo where seminarians from the diocese of Bacolod are undergoing formation. Due to the inter-diocesan nature of these seminaries, it has been a practice to group the seminarians according to their diocese of origin. There was no formal association then.Gradually the need to create an organization which will serve as the consolidating body of the different groupings present in the different formation houses involving seminarians of the Diocese of Bacolod arise. After the seminary walk-out during SY 1999-2000, the need for a united organization was intensified in order to effectively answer the demands of formation. On May 2000, the philosophy and theology seminarians together with the new set of seminary formators under the rectorship of Rev. Fr. Rolly Albert Escubido held a meeting in La Herencia Subd. A dialogue betweeen seminarians and formators was made. Part of the result of this meeting is the proposal for the creation of BUDS with Rev. Fr. Gerardo Alminaza as adviser. With the active support and approval of Most Rev. Vicente M. Navarra, Bishop of Bacolod, the members of the BUDS formulated and ratified its constitution on May 13, 2004.
